Nasal Aesthetics – Rhinoplasty
Nose esthetics or rhinoplasty is the name for surgery in which the nose is esthetically reshaped. Along with the eyes, the nose is one of the structures in the center of the face that contribute the most to facial expression. Because it is located in the center of the face, asymmetries in the nose can disturb the overall facial symmetry.
The rhinoplasty aims to create an esthetic and beautiful nose that satisfies the patient, preserving the functions of the nose without changing the facial expression of the person. Breathing, smelling, filtering the air we breathe, heating and humidifying the respiratory air are key functions of our nose. If a condition inside the nose prevents you from breathing, this can be corrected in rhinoplasty surgery. For example, in rhinoplasty surgery, a septum deviation, also known as the middle part of the nose or bone curvature, is corrected, and this procedure is called septorhinoplasty.
In rhinoplasty surgery, the plan should be individualized. Every face structure is unique, just as every nose is unique. The patient’s wishes and dislikes should also be taken into account when planning the procedure. When planning, care should be taken to ensure that not only appearance but also the interior of the nose and its functionality are designed optimally.
In which season should rhinoplasty be performed?
Nose esthetics (rhinoplasty) is an operation that can be performed in any of the four seasons.
Will my breathing problems improve with rhinoplasty?
If a condition inside the nose prevents you from breathing, this can be corrected in rhinoplasty surgery. Septum deviation, turbinate hypertrophy, concha bullosa, nasal valve problems can be corrected with rhinoplasty.
Which technique is the best in rhinoplasty?
In rhinoplasty, there is no such thing as the best technique. You can determine the most appropriate technique for you by talking to your doctor. The most important thing is that you get an easier post-operative and long-term satisfactory result. In this regard, the technique with which your doctor is experienced will be more advantageous.
The open technique or closed technique?
The procedures performed on the nose are substantially the same whether rhinoplasty is performed open or closed. With the open technique, there is a more comfortable field of view. In the open technique, an inverted V-shaped incision is made in the anterior part of the nose, called the columella, on the skin between both nostrils. Most rhinoplasty patients are concerned about leaving scars here, but there will be no long-term scars with proper care during surgery.
From what age is rhinoplasty performed?
When bone development is complete, rhinoplasty can be performed in females from 16 years of age and in males from 17 years of age.
How long does recovery take after rhinoplasty?
Early recovery is about a week. The plaster on your nose and, if any, tampons will be removed one week following your surgery. Most of the swellings and bruises on the face have healed.
When can I return to work after rhinoplasty?
It is medically safe to return to work a few days following surgery for individuals who work at a desk or remotely. It takes 1-2 weeks on average to return to jobs that require physical labor.
Is rhinoplasty a painful operation?
Rhinoplasty is usually not a painful procedure. On the day of surgery, you may feel a burning sensation and slight pain in your nose. Afterward, you may feel pressure in the nose and face for a while until the initial swelling subsides, but there are hardly any patients who complain of pain.
What is the Ultrasonic–Piezo technique?
In our clinic, we perform ultrasonic rhinoplasty in almost all surgeries. In ultrasonic or piezo rhinoplasty, the tools used in the classical method to intervene in the bone, such as hammer, chisel, or rasp, are not used, and the nasal bones are not broken. A piezo device is a tool that cuts bone with high-frequency sound waves and does not damage soft tissue. With this method, post-operative bruising and swelling are less than the classical method, and pain is almost absent.
Are tampons used in rhinoplasty?
In the past, cloth or sponge pads were used; today, silicone pads are used. Silicone pads have tunnels for you to breathe. They do not stick to the tissue inside the nose and can therefore be easily removed.
Is it extremely challenging to remove a tampon?
No. Silicone tampons are pretty easy to remove.
When will my nose take its final shape?
When the plaster on the nose is removed a week after the operation, the nose appears quite swollen, usually due to edema. Although it varies according to the skin structure of the nose and the person’s metabolic characteristics, your nose usually forms 70% in the 1st month, 80-90% in the 6th month, and 90% in the 1st year. It takes up to 2 years for the nose to reach its final shape, especially in people with thick skin.
